The bass ban is now over and the good news is that there are plenty of stories of good fishing being reported from around the country. The estuaries which were strangely quiet this time last year appear to be holding good numbers of schoolies (and also a fair number of bigger fish), and anglers have been eagerly awaiting June 16th when they could wet a line once again.
One place where the good fishing has resumed is Kerry, where the bass are providing anglers with good sport as they had been in April and early May. I met up with Heiko and Dave for an evenings fishing and we lost count of the number of fish we had between the three of us. There were regular treble shots as the bass pounced on the baits as soon as they hit the bottom. It was a rare night where there was absolutely zero wind but unfortunately i didn’t have my lure or fly gear with me. You would have easily been able to get a fly out to them and i can only imagine the sport that could have been had!
All the fish were fat and in great condition and looked like they hadn’t spawned yet (everything seems to be a few weeks late this year). With this in mind, try get them back as safely and as quickly as possible.
Sure between the 3 of ye they hadn’t a chance the poor Bass 🙂
Nice report as always.
They get the better of us far more often than we do them!
